On Friday, the Argentinean Foreign Ministry responded to Russia's protest with regard to the June 13th attack on a Russian vessel with a note, in which the Argentinean side held out some hope that the incident would not inflict damage to the friendly spirit of bilateral relations. On June 13th, the Russian Odoyevsk trawler three times came under shoot-to-death fire opened by an Argentinean patrol boat in international waters near Puerto Madryn.
At the same time, the Argentinean side is still insisting that the trawler was fishing squid 1.3 miles inside Argentinean territorial waters.
On the other hand, on June 14th, Pavel Ripak, the Odoyevsk's captain, submitted to the Buenos Aires Department of the Russian Transport Ministry a list of damages inflicted to the vessel by the Tomson patrol boat of the Argentinean Navy.
As a result of the attack, there are 21 breaches in the fore, 15 breaches in the hull, 11 projectiles hit the air conditioning scoop, and another 10 breaches are located in other places around the vessel. According to the Captain, the patrol boat destroyed two radio antennas, two radars, starboard drive and central engine are out of order. The portside radar and mast have 22 breaches, vessel's cables are seriously damaged, and there are 2 breaches in a rescue boat. One projectile hit signal lamp, the cat-fall has also been damaged. Another 48 projectiles hit the vessel inflicting no substantial damaged or breaches.
No casualties among the crew have been reported.
According to Andrei Stepanov, a representative of the Russian Transport Ministry in Argentina, the issue should be considered closed.
