Gabbiano (Italy), Airborne surveillance, maritime patrol and navigation radars
Type
Family of X-band (8 to 12.5 GHz) airborne surveillance radars.
Description
Selex Galileo's Gabbiano family of airborne surveillance radars is designed for homeland security, economic exclusion zone patrol, environmental surveillance, maritime patrol, search and rescue and special forces support applications. As such, Gabbiano radars share a common integration interface and make use of a technology basket that comprises a dedicated control panel (as an alternative to control via a mission computer); mechanically scanned nose and 75 cm or 1.8 m belly antennas; a Receiver/Exciter/Processor (REP) and 20 W (designated as T-20), 200 W (T-200) and 550 W (T-550) transmitters. Of these, the solid-state T-20 configuration is designed for use aboard Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and small manned aircraft where the available space envelope and weight constraints are "demanding". For its part, the T-200 transmitter takes the form of a fully coherent, air cooled, travelling wave tube equipment, while the T-550 is a more powerful air cooled application. In terms of the radar's REP (and as of May 2011), Selex Galileo has developed a "next generation" unit that is smaller, lighter (less than 6 kg) and less power hungry (less than 50 W) than its predecessor and which is "ready for [the next generation of] digital signal processing". Other generic system features include: low probability-of-intercepta >200 target Track-While-Scan (TWS) capability use of a programmable digital waveform generatorsoftware-driven modes (see following) up to 407 km range in maritime patrol applications. Gabbiano operating modes comprise navigation (weather and beacon [DO-172, SaRT and SST-181X] modes, ground mapping and terrain avoidance), air-to-surface (sea Moving Target Indicator [MTI], Inverse
No está claro si se compró este accesorio y no he visto aún fotos de Hermes FACH operacionales con el carenado ventral del radar.
